Recently, I’ve been experimenting with printmaking. It’s been fascinating to learn about all the different processes – both contemporary and traditional – that are behind many famous images and patterns. My personal favourite is lino printing. I love the bold, clean-cut effect it produces, and how layering and overlapping can be used to add interest and depth.
In taking this skill to the next level, I’ve noticed my personal artistic style evolving at the same time, and have become much more aware of how colour palettes and patterns can work to enhance each other. Bringing in other techniques I enjoy – such as painting, drawing and spray painting – makes it possible to create an explosion of contrasting textures, lines and colours.
My work is fuelled by my thoughts and the things I’ve encountered. I love to discuss my ideas with my sister and other creative people in my life. These conversations inspire and motivate me to transform concepts into physical form.
I have previously studied themes such as ‘Sanctuary Of The Mind’, ‘The Confusing Reality of Mixed Emotions’ and ‘How Familiarity Can be both a Positive and Negative Thing’. I don’t like to restrict myself, so I approach each new project with an open mind – choosing the techniques and mediums I feel are most suitable. Getting to this point involves researching other artists and drawing on previous projects of my own, picking out the elements that lend themselves to the effect I’m trying to achieve.
As I continue to learn and develop as an artist, I’m excited to see the direction my style will take. I think vibrant, bold colours will always feature in my work, and I’ll consistently be aiming for a thought-provoking and expressive result.
I know I belong in a creative environment, and can’t wait to take my next steps alongside other innovative artists. I want to share my enthusiasm and create pieces for people to enjoy and interpret in their own way.
If you like what you see, I'd love to hear from you!
